Transport Canada Minimum Requirements
Prerequisites:
Private Pilot Licence
Age:
18 years upon course completion
Medical Requirement:
A category 1 aviation medical is required for the Commercial Pilot Licence.
Flight Training:
Minimum 200 hours of flight time consisting of the following:
35 hours dual instructional time including:
- 20 hours instrument time
- 5 hours at night
- 5 cross-country
- 100 hours pilot in command
- 20 hours cross-country
30 hours solo flight time emphasizing the improvement of general flying skills including:
- complete a flight to a point at least 300 NM from the departure point and including full stop landings at a minimum of 3 points other than the departure
- 5 hours solo at night
Ground School – minimum 80 hours of classroom time covering the following subjects:
- Air Regulations
- Flight Instruments
- Aerodynamics and Theory of Flight
- Radio and Electronic Theory
- Meteorology
- Navigation
- Airframes, Engines and Systems
- Flight Operations
- Licensing Requirements, etc.
- Human Factors
A ground school kit containing textbooks, charts and equipment is available at the office.
Eighty hours of commercial Ground School is required.
A 100 question, multiple choice Transport Canada exam must be written. You must obtain a minimum of 60% in the 4 mandatory subject areas of the exams
A flight test with a Pilot Examiner must be completed at the end of your flight training
